I love Crystal Palace Overground festival and this year I did the performance art backdrop and installations. It was such fun getting involved and I created these birds from recycled materials from the scrapstore.
Storytelling was part of the programme and I love a good story. As usual I create my own story in my work. In my story the birds become the audience and looking on as people perform and tell stories.
The people on the other hand become birds, put on beaks and fly away. That is the whole point with art and storytelling to be free to transport yourself into another magic world where anything can happen.....
AND listen to this IT DID NOT EVEN RAIN!!!!! How lucky is that!
I love this photo of the origami birds that my friend Ada made.
I can't see enough of this photo, it has beauty and shadow at the same time.
The birds are truly magic and have a spirit. She created these birds and set them free. At the end of the festival she gave away the birds to people and children on their way home from the festival.
The birds looked great hanging from the trees. The kids loved them and did their best to touch and bounce them around. The performance art circle was quite different from the rest of the festival. I laid down on the grass under the trees sun shining listening to Johnny Cash watching the wind fly these beautiful birds around in the trees. That is one of my favourite moments from the festival.
And listening to a good story of course. I had a great time at the festival, can't wait for next year !!!!
